Concept
The Barbara Ann was designed as a single-handed voyaging boat, capable of crossing
all oceans safely and in comfort. It was designed with the concept that
technology should make the sailing easier and that easier is safer when the
going gets tough. H. G. (Blondie) Hasler, one of the greatest innovators
of single-handed sailing and an early pioneer of transatlantic racing, said in
his later years "...not very much has been done to make boats easier and more
comfortable to sail. I thought that everyone would think as I did--that
one would like to sail with the minimum of exertion and the minimum of fatigue,
but this has not proven to be true." S/V Barbara Ann uses all that modern
boatbuilding and computer technology can offer to fulfill Hasler's goal.
